Market Tavern and Market Hall
The Grade II listed LinkExternal link Market Tavern dates to 1851 as does the Grade II listed LinkExternal link Market Hall next door.

The pub was originally called The City Tavern and apparently became popular due to the water in the Market being declared unfit for human consumption in 1853. In 1865 it was renamed The Market Hotel. In 1871 the Durham Miners Association was founded here. It is now a Greene King pub.
