In the Caldew Valley and near to The Cumbria Way long distance path, Rose Castle is built from the local red sandstone and is Grade I Listed. Between 1230 and 2009 it has accommodated 63 successive Bishops of Carlisle.

A 119km (74 mile) long distance path from Ulverston to Carlisle, through the heart of the English Lake District.
