TF0820 : Felling in progress

taken 3 years ago, near to Bourne, Lincolnshire, England

Felling in progress
Felling in progress
The operator here is tying a sling around an Ash tree, due to be culled in the fight against Ash Dieback Disease. The next step will be to drive his machine to the right, further than the height of the tree, and haul in the winch attached to the sling. He will then use a chainsaw to cut nearly through the base of the trunk, secure that the tree can only fall in one direction. Finally, he will use the winch to complete the fall of the tree. The last action can be seen in TF0820 : The final moments. The machine shown in TF0820 : The Monster behind the houses will come along and dismember the trunk into logs suitable for trailering away at some point.
