St Cuthbert's Church, Kirkleatham
St Cuthbert's Church, Kirkleatham
Built in 1763 on the site of a much earlier church, thought to have dated from 800 AD. The site of the church is believed to have been just one of the many resting places for the body of St Cuthbert on its journey to Durham, his final resting place. The remarkable octagonal building to the right is the Turner Mausoleum, built in 1740 and originally attached to the earlier church. The Church is Grade I listed.
