Signs on a wall outside Avington church
The date at the top of this old wall is 1593. The plaque below marks the route of the Pilgrimage from Winchester to Canterbury in A.D.2000. The milestone refers to the Domesday Book when, in A.D.1085, the population was 65. Another face records a similar population for A.D.2000.
This square is quite unusual in that it has two parish churches within its 1km by 1km boundary. I can only think of TM2252 where there is another example. Please note I do not mean a CofE and a Methodist etc; there are plenty of examples of that.
