Tate's corner, Bradford Road, Brighouse
Tate's corner, Bradford Road - This building was two houses, but in 1906 the one on the left was Parker's Cafe, with a hotel above. By 1910 it was a house again, the other house, no.22 was Dr Brown's. The name Tate's corner started in the 1920s; Tate's was the shop on the left, with a double shop front; it became the Co-op Tailoring Department with an entrance from King Street near the corner. The Co-op supermarket was extended to incorporate it in the 1970s. The Property shop occupies the through passage that was part of no. 22. The Brighouse District Industrial Society Ltd had a tobacconist's kiosk in it, and it later became the entrance to the supermarket. Whitegates might have the original shop front of the Co-op jewellery department. The last Jeweller retired when the Society merged with Bradford in 1979. When the supermarket closed, Mackays (now rebranded M&Co) took over.
