Lambton Castle
Lambton Castle
A dramatic Grade II listed former stately home that was the seat of the Lambton family, the Earls of Durham. Built on the site of Harraton Hall after the unification of three separate estates, the grand house didn't last long before subsidence due to coal workings necessitated demolition of one wing. Further reduction in size in the 20th century resulted in the current building being around half of its former size. Due to the subsidence issues the family moved into Biddick Hall on the estate in the 1930s, and the castle currently stands empty.
