This metal-clad behemoth is a familiar landmark for travellers on the A45 in Coventry; it stands at the corner of Fletchamstead Highway and Tile Hill Lane. Under the metal cladding is the former Godiva Cinema. The Cinema Treasures site tells us that it opened in 1938 as the Standard Luxury Cinema, named after the Standard motor works nearby. It was relaunched in 1967 as the Godiva, with the steeply-raked circle as the cinema seating and the stalls converted into shop units. It closed in 1976, experiencing an afterlife as a bingo hall and later as a casino. Link Since 2017 gambling has given way to religion. 'World Mission Agency... Welcome to a winning world...
