The former Robinson's pub SJ9496 : Newton Wood War Memorial next to the war memorial on Victoria Road has gone. No doubt to be converted into residential use.
Newton Wood War Memorial

The Grade II listed LinkExternal link war memorial on Victoria Road was unveiled by Col. John Wood M.P (then for Stalybridge and Dukinfield, later for Stalybridge and Hyde) on October 13, 1917, to perpetuate the memory of the men who had joined the colours. The cost was defrayed by subscriptions from the inhabitants and friends of Newton Wood. The designs were prepared by Mr Samuel Hague, borough surveyor, and the carving and erection was completed by Messrs J.J. Hirst and Son, Denton.
