Triangulation Pillar, Muncaster Fell
Built from the local granite in 1949, the Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar is on the top of Hooker Crag which is one of the highest points on Muncaster Fell.
The flush bracket benchmark number S5763 marks a height of 231.346m above mean sea level (Ordnance Datum Newlyn), levelled in 1956 (detail photograph SD1198 : Flush Bracket Benchmark, Muncaster Fell).
The mountain directly behind the triangulation pillar is Scafell; Eskdale is the valley to the right.
