TF0820 : Swarm of bees
taken 3 years ago, near to Bourne, Lincolnshire, England

Swarm of bees
A swarm of bees clustered on a stem of bramble.
These appear to be Apis mellifera, the Honey Bee, who normally build structures inside something like a hollow tree (or, of course a man-made structure). But when they swarm they will settle like this and surround the queen to protect her and keep her warm. I expect they will move on to a more sheltered home.
I wonder if the strip-felling of Ash trees here has disrupted their habitat somehow.
