This plaque was erected in 1847 to commemorate the meeting in 1214 when the barons of England met in the Abbey Church in Bury St Edmunds and swore that they would force King John to accept the Charter of Liberties later known as Magna Carta. The plaque is situated on one of the ruined piers of the crossing of the Abbey Church.
