Castle on the hilltop - Chirk, Clwyd
A return to my March 1980 solitary walk on the Offa's Dyke Path. A view northwards to the stone bulk of Chirk Castle, now administered by the National Trust. Building, by Roger Mortimer, started in 1295 and was completed in 1310. It was built as one of a chain of Welsh border castles and is now the only inhabited castle in Wales. In 1595 it was bought by Sir Thomas Myddelton and has been in the family until 1981 when it was transferred to the National Trust. Time photo taken not available.
