Suspension chains of newly restored Union Chain Bridge
The re-constructed bridge re-opened on 17th April, 2023. There are lots of interesting photos of the restoration work on the Friends of the Union Chain Bridge Facebook page.

It will be immediately apparent to those familiar with the bridge that the reinforcing steel cables that were added above the wrought iron chains in 1902 -3 are no longer present. They can be clearly seen in this earlier picture

Few details of the re-construction seem to be available as yet: have the wrought iron chain straps been replaced with stronger steel ones?
