I was wrong about the squirrels
I was wrong about the squirrels
In TF0820 : Corylus avellana I wrote about the denudation of local Hazel trees of immature nuts by local squirrels. That was rather a foolish thing to say. A couple of days later I noticed a phenomenon. Trees all over the wood had, overnight, dropped most of their fruit simultaniously. There had been overnight rain, but no more than on recent days - it has been a wet summer - and little wind.

This is obviously part of the life cycle of the Common Hazel that I had not been aware of despite treading these paths for 50 years.
