SO8218 : Llanthony Lock (disused), Gloucester

taken 2 years ago, near to Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England

Llanthony Lock (disused), Gloucester
Llanthony Lock (disused), Gloucester
This abandoned lock was built in 1871 to allow traffic on the Severn to avoid the adjoining weir. It created an island to the left that is connected to Gloucester by a private foot bridge. The lock closed in 2924 and has been partly filled for safety. It is technically still a right of navigation and the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust intend to restore it.
