The Reverend Whitwell Elwin
The Reverend Whitwell Elwin
Portrait in the church of St Michael and All Angels. The Reverend Whitwell Elwin, a distant relation of the Native American princess Pocahontas, a man of letters, a regular commentator and a correspondent in the London press, inherited the Booton living on the death of a cousin. The Booton postbox is believed to have been erected specifically to meet his personal letter-posting needs. He completely rebuilt and transformed the old Booton parish church and he also built the village school.
