Town Hall and a Peel view - Tamworth, Staffordshire
A view eastwards on Market Street to the Sir Robert Peel statue and the Town Hall behind. Sir Robert had an active political career, founded the Conservative Party and the Metropolitan Police. He was MP (Member of Parliament) for Tamworth until 1850. Behind stands the Town Hall, Grade II* listed by English Heritage on 11th May 1950. Dating from 1701 it was extended in 1811, which portion was rebuilt in 1845. This work was funded by Sir Thomas Guy, founder of Tamworth's Guy's Almshouses and Guy's Hospital in London.
