City of London Footways

This is a collection of various passages, courts, alleys, paths, pedestrian tunnels and pavements in the City of London. Many of these date from the medieval street plan and have survived the redevelopment of recent years, some of which travel under buildings.

The term "footway" is used in fairly wide sense to describe any path or track for pedestrians, where motor vehicles are not normally allowed.

A very helpful reference is Ivor Hoole's "A guide to the alleys, courts, passages and yards of Central London" which has been archived here: Archive LinkExternal link

From Marty P to Baby Bear

On August the Fifth 2023 we came for a City Walk which was Wet Wet Wet™. In between then and now we have had an early September Swelterthon. Today, however, was like Baby Bear's Porridge - just right. From Bank we walked along to the Guildhall, down to Dick Whittington's old manor, through to the Walkie-Talkie, up to its northern border and then down to the bottom of Moorgate.
