Air raid memorial, Hull
Air raid memorial, Hull
Unveiled in the Northern Cemetery in May 2023, a memorial in a new remembrance area to victims of the Hull Blitz. German air raids killed about 400 people in the city between 7 and 9 May 1941. This commemorates in particular the 300 or more men, women and children buried in unmarked mass graves nearby. It augments an existing 'official' memorial dating from 1951 (see TA0731 : Northern Cemetery, Chanterlands Avenue, Kingston upon Hull).

Hull was the most severely damaged British city or town during the Second World War, with 95 per cent of its houses affected.
