Seen from its upper terminus, one of the two remaining out of the resort's original five cliff railways, or funiculars. The Central Tramway Company LinkExternal link was formed during the late 1870s to build the funicular between Foreshore Road and St Nicholas Gardens using 4 ft 8.5 inch standard gauge track, covering a distance of 233 ft (71 m) over a 1 in 2 (50%) gradient.
