Warwick Bridge Mill - synchronous alternator
Warwick Bridge Mill - synchronous alternator
When the mill was restored it was decided that money could be made by using the wheel as a microhydropower scheme to also drive this synchronous three phase alternator. This view is looking upwards as it is mounted on the ceiling of the room it is in. Note the smoke detector hanging down nearby. In reality it has done little useful work and if the wheel slows the alternator becomes a motor and draws current from the grid. Perhaps the use of wind turbine technology with an inverter producing synthetic 50 Hz would have worked better.
