SE3320 : Hepworth Gallery Wakefield
taken 3 years ago, near to Wakefield, England

The Hepworth Wakefield building is located on a headland site on the River Calder and within the Wakefield Waterfront conservation area. It has no dominant façade. Several staggered volumes are tightly interlocked; each volume is unique in size and shape and represents a single space. The façades have been constructed of pigmented concrete. The intention is to have a sculptural appearance echoing the shapes and forms in many of Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures. On the river side it steps into the water in a similar fashion to the old mills and warehouses nearby. Architect: David Chipperfield Architects.
