Back to Claymills -2, in the Claymills workshop
This Ruston-Proctor portable engine originally worked at Claymills Pumping Station. The Trust which now runs the engines at Claymills celebrated 30 years of work in October 2023, and as part of the celebrations the owner loaned the engine for display at the October 2023 steam weekend. In this view work is in progress to make it fit for display including providing external steam to the engine part to allow the engine to run. (The boiler is not currently able to produce steam.)
The doorway into the workshop, which dates from around 1900, was made large enough to get the engine and its siblings inside for maintenance.

Claymills Victorian Pumping Station
Claymills Pumping Station is a former steam-powered, sewage pumping station on the north side of Burton upon Trent, now restored as a museum and visitor attraction. It was built between 1884 and 1886 and used to pump sewage caused by the brewing industry in Burton-upon-Trent to the sewage farm at Egginton. It is designated as a Grade II* listed building (Historic England List entry Number: 1038427 Link
); one of only three pumping stations of this size and completeness to survive in England.
