taken 17 years ago, near to Muir, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

Scots pine in Glen Lui
Scots pine in Glen Lui
Remnants of the Caledonian forest in The Forest of Mar. By the 19th century most of the trees had been felled for timber and the conversion to a sporting estate, with the associated red deer numbers prevented regeneration. The estate now falls within the Cairngorm National Park and is now owned by The National Trust for Scotland who are encouraging regeneration of the native pinewood.
