Ibrox Stadium

Ibrox Stadium on Edmiston Drive in south west Glasgow is the home of Rangers FC. The stadium has a capacity of 50, 817, making it the third largest football stadium in the city, after Celtic Park (60,832) and Hampden Park (51,866).

The original football ground opened in 1899 and was known as Ibrox Park. The ground has been the site of two major disasters since then. In 1902, 25 supporters died at a Scotland v England game when a wooden stand at the west end of the ground collapsed. In 1971, 66 Rangers supporters died at a game v Celtic as a result of severe crushing on the stairway at Exit 13. A memorial to this disaster stands at the east side of the ground at Edmiston Drive.

The ground was renamed Ibrox Stadium following completion of rebuilding and renovations in 1997. The main stand, known as the Bill Struth Stand, was retained during the rebuilding and is Category A Listed LinkExternal link .

The four grandstands at the stadium are named as follows; Bill Struth (south), Broomloan Road (west), Sandy Jardine (north) and Copland Road (east) Stands.

A crowd of 118,567 attended the Rangers V Celtic game in January 1939. This stands as a British record attendance for a league match, a record which is unlikely to be broken.
