The Study at Chartwell
Chartwell was Winston and Clementine Churchill's home from 1924 to his death in 1965. It now comes under the National Trust and was first opened to the public in the summer of 1966.
Winston Churchill rarely wrote seated, preferring to dictate while pacing across the floorboards. The oil painting is of Blenheim Palace, his ancestral home. The Union Flag was the first Union Flag to be flown over a capital city after liberation in the Second World War - Rome in 1944.
