Salford Quays is the name given to the area of Salford which was previously the site of Manchester Docks, it became one of the first and largest urban regeneration projects in the United Kingdom following the closure of the dockyards in 1982.
The Lowry Centre is a theatre and gallery complex situated on Pier 8 at Salford Quays. It is named after the famous early 20th-century painter, LS Lowry, known for his paintings of industrial scenes in Salford and North West England. The complex was officially opened on 12 October 2000 by HM Queen Elizabeth II.
