The church is along a quiet lane and is easily missed. It is built of chalk blocks which were renewed after a frost disaster in 1861. The Shell Guide to Kent describes the interior as having splendid proportions and full of atmosphere and all a model of Victorian taste.

St James is a Chapel of Ease and has no facilities, so evening services are by candlelight. They have five services each year: Christingle in December which is always popular and very well attended; an Easter Saturday evening Vigil, the St James Patronal Festival in July and the Harvest Festival in October.

Sadly, a notice on the door explains that theft has been a major problem - see Link
