Dun Rig - the Meal Monday hike of the Edinburgh University Physical Society
In the Twentieth Century Scottish Universities observed Meal Monday as an academic holiday. Alas this tradition is no more. Meal Monday was the second Monday in February and in olden days students would have a long weekend to replenish their basic food - oatmeal. Edinburgh University's physicists had a tradition of scaling Dun Rig (742m) on Meal Monday having taken the train to Peebles. The train line is no more as well. Here is the group in the snow on the summit itself in 1963.
