Howden Burn and military road
Howden Burn and military road
The road over the Pentlands from Dreghorn Barracks (background) to the range at Castlelaw climbs a steep sided valley to a pass between Allermuir Hill and Capelaw Hill. The wooded area below is used for non live training by the Army. Before 1980 live training in the area restricted direct access to the Pentland Hills from Edinburgh and the hills were remarkably untouched with few paths made by walkers.
