The building is dated 1893. It was Middlesbrough's oldest pub when it closed in 2010 after 170 years of trading owing to demolition of most of the surrounding residential property. It appeared in the third series of Auf Wiedersehen Pet. It was owned by Middlesbrough council at the date of the image. The building is grade II listed. It has been repaired since the image was taken and converted to residential accommodation.
