Abbey Barn, Abbey Fields, Kenilworth
This is a view of the barn from the east, showing its timber-framed gable end. The abbey was founded in 1122 by Geoffrey de Clinton, builder of Kenilworth Castle, as a priory of Augustinian canons, a community of priests who followed a rule of common religious life derived from one written by St Augustine of Hippo in North Africa around the year 400. By the 15th century the priory had become an abbey. It was suppressed by Henry VIII in 1538.
The abbey church has disappeared, but some fragments of the monastic buildings survive in Abbey Fields, including this structure, which may date from the 14th century, according to the listing of the abbey at the Historic England site Link

) . It was later used as a barn, hence its name, but its original purpose is not known.
