Old Light northern face Lundy Island, Devon
Old Light northern face Lundy Island, Devon
This is the now-superseded Old Lighthouse. It suffered from a design fault - namely that when a fog descended its top, and the light, could not be seen. Originally a number of lights were fixed down its side, guiding mariners by the number of lights that were visible enabling them to know how close to the island they were. In spite of this there have been many wrecks over the years. On the left stands Old Light Cottage, once my home for a week in September 1997. Properties on Lundy can be booked through the Landmark Trust. Time photo taken not available.
