Pontop Pike Transmitting Station
The mast was built in 1953 and is 149 m high. Standing atop the 312 m Pontop Pike, a hill classified as a 'HUMP' (Hundred metre promontory - a hill with a drop of at least 100 m on all sides), the transmitter is able to serve (in conjunction with relays where required) Tyne & Wear, County Durham, much of Northumberland, and parts of North Yorkshire with digital TV transmissions.
