Fish Artwork, North Shields Transport Hub
Fish Artwork, North Shields Transport Hub
This is one of three artworks inspired by North Shields’ maritime heritage which have been installed in the town’s new Transport Hub and Town Square. Created by local artist Colin Davies as part of an 18-month project funded by a government grant, the artworks have been made using sustainable and environmentally-sound materials. This artwork is inside the Transport Hub, and consists of more than 2,000 fish suspended on a wire sculpture from the ceiling. The artwork is made from recycled plastic, donated by North Tyneside businesses CJM Recycling and Impact Recycling. The work weighs 250kg which according to UNESCO, is the lower end of how much plastic waste is dumped into the sea every single second. The artwork is called: “everysecondofeveryminuteofeveryhourofeveryday”.
