SK4654 : Pinxton signal box

taken 20 years ago, near to Pinxton, Derbyshire, England

Pinxton signal box
Pinxton signal box
A standard Midland Railway design, although with a modern steel staircase. The line was an important link for coal traffic in the area, which is why it survives, although passenger services ceased as far back as 1947. Reduced traffic following the end of coal production led to signalling rationalisation in the early 21st century. In 2007 the box was dismantled and re-erected at the Barrow Hill Roundhouse museum near Chesterfield. Link
