Allonby is on the King Charles III England Coast Path and a popular seaside destination for visitors, especially families, with extensive beaches and views across the Solway Firth to Scotland.
This is one of the two public toilet facilities in Allonby; these are closed for part of the year and the others have been closed permanently (photograph NY0842 : Public Toilets, Allonby). Only in Britain would we have a seaside resort without public toilets for six months of the year!
Local residents and businesses complain about visitors causing nuisance by using inappropriate places in the village as toilets, but the hapless visitors have no choice. Years of misguided government austerity are surely to blame.
