Gateway on Hammermill Lane
Gateway on Hammermill Lane
Entrance gate in the old drystone wall around Waskeredge Plantation. The log pile shows that felling of part of the plantation has been taking place. The plantations around here were established in the early 19th century after the enclosure of Newlands Common in 1808. The drystone wall probably dates from this time also. No doubt there have been successive plantings since that time.
