Elizabeth was the daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth Munro, and had a younger sister, Charlotte Isabella Munro, who died aged 18 and who is buried in the Abbey. Elizabeth married Capt Robert Aitchison, RN, on 18th December 1821. Robert joined the Royal Navy as a midshipman and served in the Mediterranean and also on an expedition against New Orleans. In 1815 he was placed on half pay for nine months. In 1816 he was appointed as flag-lieutenant to Sir David Milne. He reached the rank of Commander in 1819, and Captain in 1827, while serving in the North Sea. Elizabeth died at the age of 39.
More than any other in the UK

They say Bath Abbey has more memorials than any other church in the UK: that is a big claim for any building to make. However, memorials are my thing and I have never seen so many. Enormous ones, tiny ones; old ones, the more modern; the greatest of the great, the well travelled, those who have never strayed far from this fair city- they are all here. At well over 600, this magnificent place of worship is only surpassed by the outdoor National Memorial Arboretum. It is a MUST Visit (to the power of must visits)
