Demolition train at Lees Lane Crossing
The Gosport branch closed to freight traffic in January 1969 and this view almost certainly is of the train used for track lifting. The locomotive is (D)2989, later Class 07 005, built by Ruston & Hornsby in 1962 for use at Southampton Docks. This particular locomotive has survived into preservation, currently (2024) at the Great Central Railway.
The building on the right, originally an engineering works, survives as the Sanderson Business Centre Link . The railway has been converted to a a multi-user route.

Gosport to Fareham Line
The Fareham–Gosport line was built as the southern half of the Bishopstoke to Gosport Branch Railway, opened by the London and South Western Railway in 1841. It served the towns of Fareham and Gosport with one intermediate station at Fort Brockhurst. The line closed to passengers in 1953 and finally closed in 1969. Today it is used as National Cycle Route 224.
