C2C (Sea to Sea) Signage, Tynemouth
This iconic route travels 137 miles between the Irish Sea and the North Sea, from Cumbria to Tyneside, passing through the northern Lake District before climbing the Pennines and descending to the railway paths of County Durham. At its eastern end (North Sea) the route traditionally terminates at this signage although most participants will wish to dip their toes in the North Sea at Priors Haven, a couple of hundred metres from this point, having in all probability dipped their toes in the Irish Sea at Whitehaven prior to departure.
