Dalemain Mansion and Gardens A592 near Stainton
Grade I Listed country house. Possibly a settlement in Saxon times. A Pele tower was built on the site in the mid to late 12th century. It was purchased by Sir Edward Hasell in 1679 and has remained in the family since then. Sir Edward substantially altered the house and the Georgian front was completed by his son in 1744, built to enclose the old house within a central courtyard. The garden façade was rebuilt in 1748 to match the new front.
