St Mary in Castro, Dover
The Church of St Mary inside the walls of Dover Castle was originally Saxon and was built alongside the old Roman Pharos on the Eastern Heights above the harbour at Dover.
The church was restored in the 19th century after being derelict for many years.
The Roman Pharos, Dover
The lighthouse (Roman Pharos) on the highest point of the Eastern Heights, inside the walls of Dover Castle, is Britain's oldest surviving lighthouse, dating from around 46-50 AD. In the 13-14th century the lighthouse was modified for use as a bell-tower for the Church of St Mary.
