Once it was the Abbey Whitby, North Yorkshire
Whitby Abbey, the Abbey of St Hilda, has been standing here since the 12th century. Its present state is in sharp contrast to its previous existence. Once the home of monks and a centre of activity it now hosts visitors from locals to those from further afield. Owned since 1920 by the then English Heritage it has now a very different role.
