St Mary the Virgin, Chipping Norton

The parish church of Chipping Norton is at the end of a short lane to the west of the town centre and immediately south of the site of the former castle. The building is listed grade I (list entry 1052637). Like many such churches it represents several phases of building and restoration, from a 12th century foundation to a heavy restoration by E G Bruton in 1878. The nave is unusually high, and the whole edifice is described in the parish website as 'one of the largest of the magnificent Cotswold churches financed by the proceeds of the medieval wool trade.' The official listing has much more architectural detail.
