A preserved London Transport Diesel Engine No 8 at North Weald Station
This diesel engine No 8 40227 waiting at North Weald Station, dates from 1968 and was the last of the 228 Class 20 diesel engines that were constructed by English Electric between 1957 and 1968. They were used on freight trains, seeing only occasional work on passenger services such as seaside excursions. The name SHERLOCK HOLMES was also to be seen on No 8 Metrovick Bo-Bo electric locomotive, which was one of twenty to run on the Metropolitan Railway between London Aldgate and Rickmansworth stations between the early 1920s and the early 1960s.
