The crossing at Dalwhinnie
The crossing at Dalwhinnie
The crossing provides access across the railway to the Ben Alder estate. Popular with hikers and cyclists heading for the Ben Alder area. However, Network Rail has closed the crossing to all but authorised users accessing the estate. Walkers and cyclists wishing to get across the line must now use a railway underpass a little to the south. This has caused much consternation for some, but a comparison of the respective routes to get over the railway reveals that, from the station, the distance over the crossing is 0.4 miles and using the underpass it is 1.1 miles, a difference of 0.7 miles. Hardly significant if pondering the 15-mile hike to Ben Alder.
