Severn Valley Railway

The Severn Valley Railway is a sixteen mile (26 km) heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire operating between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route. Most trains are hauled by steam locomotives. Diesels occasionally replace failed steam locomotives at short notice, and are also used during periods of high fire risk.
The SVR hosts numerous special events throughout the year, including both steam and diesel galas.

The original 40 mile line was built between 1858 and 1862 linking Hartlebury (near Droitwich) with Shrewsbury via Stourport, Kidderminster, Bewdley, Bridgnorth, and Ironbridge. The line closed in 1963. The new SVR company was formed by 1967, and a short length of line re-opened from Bridgnorth in 1970. From this beginning, by unending enthusiasm, dedication and hard work, the present magnificent operation has grown. LinkExternal link LinkExternal link
