Going nowhere at Gobowen
Going nowhere at Gobowen
One of Transport for Wales much vaunted class 197 trains came to a halt at Gobowen and after much discussion with 'the technical people', it was declared a failure and would go no further on its journey from Cardiff to Holyhead. A subsequent service, operated by a trusty class 158 running between Birmingham and Holyhead, came partially to the rescue. However, because of the delay caused by the breakdown, that would go only to Bangor. Passengers for Holyhead would have to contend with a replacement bus service from there.

It's interesting that the couplings of the class 197 and 158 trains are not compatible, so the 158 couldn't 'rescue' the 197 and further time was lost whilst the 197 was shunted out of the way to clear the road for the 158. I arrived in Chester some 90 minutes late.
